Leaders of the Eurapco alliance recently travelled to Shanghai and Hangzhou to gain first-hand insights into China’s insurance and technology environment. The visit brought together the Board and leardship of Eurapco and the partner companies for a week of company visits, knowledge and cultural exchange.
The programme included sessions on Chinese society, the role of technology in everyday life, and the rapid development of China’s insurance market. The group also visited leading companies such as Alibaba, TikTok, ZhongAn, Ant Group, iYunbao, Geely, and Nuanwa Technology.
Key takeaways included how quickly new ideas are put into practice, how closely insurance is connected to digital platforms, and how data and AI are already part of everyday operations. Digital health and embedded insurance were identified as important growth areas.
“This trip confirmed several important lessons. In China, AI is already used at scale, and new ideas are tested and implemented rapidly. Equally striking is China’s view of Europe as a single, unified force rather than a collection of individual countries — a perspective at the heart of Eurapco. In a fast-moving world, we need leaders who are willing to be disruptive,” summarizes Frauke Feess, General Manager of Eurapco.
